Day 13
Read: Romans 8: 31 – 39
During times of darkness, it is easy to feel like we are isolated from or even abandoned by God. This passage speaks truth into that lie. It says NOTHING – tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, shame, danger, death, evil, height, depth, or anything in all creation – is able to separate us from God’s love to us through Jesus. His love is everlasting and longsuffering. The passage says that in these things mentioned above, we are more than conquerors. He equips us with the ability to overcome these difficult times and allows us to grow and glean from them.
God shows His love to us through never leaving and sticking close, even through the hard times. I can’t help but think of Job’s story when reading this. His wife encouraged him to curse God, his friends questioned his faithfulness and offered advice that wasn’t exactly helpful or complete truth. He must have felt utterly alone. I am sure many of us have felt that same loneliness and betrayal by others that we love. How encouraging to know that in contrast, we have a God, who sits with us in the ashes, lovingly pulls us up, and always has the right, truthful words to say.
Smile in a Cup: Nothing is able to separate us from the love of God.
